How Florence can increase a patient’s independence

Date posted: 02 May 2014

Nancy*, a 92-year-old with early dementia was a regular at hospital.

Nancy’s on going health relies heavily on compliance with her medication regime, but the consequences of dementia mean remembering requires the close attention and support of family, friends and healthcare providers.

Florence was suggested to help her remember and hopefully reduce the number of hospital visits.

Nancy now receives a quick phone call from Florence each morning to remind her to take her medication. This not only reassures her family, it also gives her back her independence.

It’s a simple thing really, but this one phone call means she takes her medication and is no longer reliant on her healthcare provider or family members.

Nancy is now taking her medication correctly. During the two months that she’s been using Florence she’s not once been admitted to hospital.
