How Florence cut Nurse’s home visits in half

Date posted: 17 Apr 2014

Nurses in Nottingham have cut their home visits down by 50% by using Florence. It used to be very time consuming to monitor patient’s blood pressure, with Nurses visiting some patients up to three times a week for routine checks.

These patients can now check their own blood pressure and text it to Florence. Florence reminds the patient when it’s time to take their readings and the messages sent by Flo can be personalised for each patient. A lot of patients have mentioned that texting Flo feels just like texting one of their friends. Flo will let the patient know what their reading is indicating and will record the readings for the Nurse to view on screen. Flo will also notify the Nurse if the readings aren’t looking normal.

“That reading looks great to me. Enjoy the rest of your day. Flo”.

“That’s quite high. Please can you give your Nurse a call on – 0161 123456. Take care. Flo”.

“That’s a little high. Just sit down and relax for five minutes and then take your reading again”.

Allowing the patients to take care of their own readings has a lot of benefits. Firstly it allows Nurses to ensure that all of their home visits are appropriate, meaning that they can spend more time with patients breaching their normal readings. Florence has already cut Nottingham’s home visits in half, which improves the care given as well as allowing financial savings.

This not only benefits the Nurses and those patients needing closer attention, it also helps patients regain their independence. They’re now able to forget about appointments keeping them at home several days a week. They can take their readings anywhere whilst they’re busy doing anything. Florence is making such a positive impact on patient’s and Nurse’s daily lives.
